The Tree Planters: How to Fertilize Your Palm Trees
At The Tree Planters, we understand that a regular regimen of fertilization of your palm trees proves to be just as important to the life and health of your palms as the nutrition that you feed your own body.
There is nothing like sitting in the evening on your porch, or around your pool and watching the palm fronds blow gentle in the wind. The tropical ambiance that palms exude cannot be duplicated. That being said, at The Tree Planters we want your trees to give you years of intoxicating views.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services offers expert advice on how to fertilize your palm trees.
Summer is coming soon; roots and palm fronds will grow fast! Do you have a fertilizing regimen? Are you sure that you are applying the correct palm fertilizers? Based on the advice on fertilizing palms from Dr. Broschat and Dr. Elliott, University of Florida expert researchers, the latest fertilizer recommendation is to apply 8 – 2 – 12 + 4 Mg at the rate of 1.5 lbs. of fertilizer per 100 sq. ft. of palm canopy area.
Lately, various fertilizers with the same formulation have appeared in the market. Do you know which one is the best for your palms? A great place to get answers is to visit your local farm and garden supply store, such as Doty’s Farm and Garden of Winter Haven, call (863) 293-9730 and ask for Larry Hughes. He would be glad to answer all your questions.
